Did you notice the billboard poster in Putney which highlights the local poor air quality – one of the worst areas for this type of pollution in London? ‘Putney, you’re breathing dirtier air than most of London’ is on the Upper Richmond Road and was created by Mums for Lungs – an organisation that is asking for action to be taken on levels of poisonous car emissions. An inquest into the death of South London child, Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah recently found that air pollution ‘made a material contribution’ to her death. The lungs on the poster started off white and have been changing colour as they become more polluted.
A study by the Environmental Defence Fund Europe shows that around 50,000 primary school children in London are exposed to dangerous levels of pollution on major roads.
