Enjoy London’s largest and most exciting children’s book festival on Barnes Green this June
It’s wonderful that this successful Children’s Literature Festival is right on our doorstop and returns each year to encourage children in their love of books.
Barnes will become the children’s books capital of the UK when the Festival returns in June, with more than 100 of the family-friendliest readings, performances and free activities around the village, giving enquiring minds the chance to meet their favourite authors and illustrators.
Comedy legend Sir Lenny Henry, the mega bestselling author of the How to Train Your Dragon series, Cressida Cowell, and master storyteller Sir Michael Morpurgo are just a few of the big names attending.
They’ll be joined by Gruffalo illustrator, Axel Scheffler, renowned cartoonist Chris Riddell, superstar space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, and brilliant autistic teenage author and environmentalist, Dara McAnulty, among many others.
This year’s programme is packed with fun and accessible theatre performances, including a brand new event based on the extraordinary stories of Roald Dahl, a magical Pippi Longstocking show and a trip to the wacky world of Alice in Wonderland.
There are shows for the littlest book fans, too, with The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Barnes’ beloved Judith Kerr, Paddington Bear’s First Concert, Baby Broadway and a storytelling session starring the Mr Men and Little Miss characters.
