This year’s festival launches on the day that venues can open their doors to inside entertainment – expect great excitement as well as great music and theatre
As venues once again thankfully re-open their doors to the public, the Barnes Music Festival has a host of events for those who have been deprived of live music and theatre in the past year.
Storytelling is at the heart of the festival. Holst, perhaps Barnes’ most famous composer will be celebrated with his mystical opera Savitri combining western and Indian music and dance. There will be Shakespeare-inspired events and stories, including Tama Matheson’s musical-drama on the life of composer Sir Andrzej Panufnik, father of festival patron, Roxanna Panufnik. Gyles Brandreth will delight with his Theatrical and Musical Anecdotes while the beautiful Cadilly opera from Barnes’ prolific composer, Stephen Dodgson, is in the programme, also featuring Vaughan Williams. Internationally renowned pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard will perform the Bach Well Tempered Clavier whilst acclaimed guitarist Marc Jean-Bernard returns with a Recital Lecture ‘From Greek Drama to Modernity’. All events will be run according to Government Covid guidelines.
