Burke & Wills, Richmond: Moving made easy
Terance Puna, General Manager of local removal company, Burke & Wills, shares his tips for making a move with a young family as seamless as possible. Terance says, ‘Burke & Wills has been moving families since 1995. We provide an all-round stress free service from the moment we receive the first booking call – and that’s worth its weight in gold when little ones are involved!’
Prepare a To Do list and folder
Include floorplans, inventories, useful phone numbers and utility company details for both locations – having everything in one place alongside a task list will help you manage your move. List everything from researching parking restrictions to setting up a re-direction service, taking meter readings and organising utility services. Organise an end-of-tenancy clean, too.
Declutter and recycle well in advance
Think about what you you’d like to keep and what you can sell, donate, recycle or dump. If you’d like to donate Various charities, such as the British Heart Foundation and The Salvation Army will collect and take unwanted furniture from you. Involve your children
Depending on their age, make the moving process fun for your children. Help little ones pack their special items, from teddy bears to favourite clothes, and make choosing the paint colours and furnishings for their new bedroom an exciting project.
Make a packing plan
Packing and labelling room by room is best, so that on the other side, everything can be unpacked room by room, too. Source all your packing materials in advance and create an inventory as you go. Pack a Survival Kit of all your essentials for setting up on Day One and consider buying children their own special wheelie bag which can contain everything they need for the first night in their new home.
Storage solutions
Store excess possessions until you have space for them or the time to sell them once the move is completed.
