Free monthly concerts at The Barn Church
From Elgar to Duke Ellington, make the most of Kew’s monthly concerts
Word is spreading about the year-round series of free monthly concerts being staged at the Barn Church in Kew. Developed by Mark Dowling, Director of Music at the Barn (pictured) its aim is to bring a wide variety of live music and talented musicians to Kew audiences. Concerts so far have ranged from soloists playing the classical works of Handel and Schubert to a Jazz Trio performing the songs of Duke Ellington and Gershwin. Usually (but not always) held on a Sunday afternoon, there is always the opportunity to enjoy some light refreshments afterwards. The next concert will be held on Sunday, 21 September at 2.30pm with Gayle Walker (Soprano) performing a varied programme of operatic arias through to American songbook.
The Barn Church monthly music concerts began as a local initiative to bring live music into the unique setting of the historic Barn Church, blending heritage with culture. Established to foster community spirit, the concerts showcase a wide range of genres, from classical and choral to folk and contemporary performances. Over time, they have attracted both local musicians and visiting artists, creating a vibrant platform for talent and enriching the cultural life of the area. The intimate, rustic atmosphere of the Barn enhances the experience, making these concerts a cherished tradition that continues to grow in popularity and reputation. Just turn up!
