The new online lottery, Get Lucky Local, is looking for more charities and good causes in Richmond borough to benefit from ticket sales
A new online lottery, Get Lucky Local, is a weekly not-for-profit lottery which raises money for local causes in the community, such as charities, sports projects and community groups. It launched in September, with the blessing of Richmond Council and, so far, more than 40 good causes have signed up to benefit, including Missing People, Richmond Mencap, ETNA Community Centre, Kew Neighbourhood Association and Richmond Carers Centre, amongst others.
The lottery tickets have already raised £33,000 and GLL is looking for more local organisations to benefit. Participants in the game choose which local organisation will benefit from their ticket purchase, with 50% of the £1 tickets price going directly that cause and 10% to supporting another cause within the borough. The other 40% is spent on prizes, admin costs and VAT. There is a top prize of £25,000 to be won, with smaller prizes on offer.
At the lottery launch, Twickenham MP, Munira Wilson, recognised that many local organisations had been affected by the downturn during the pandemic. She said: ‘Many struggle to get by and the coronavirus has made their need even more acute.’
