Charismatic managers, and life partners, Will Pritchard and Lisa Sutcliffe have created a pub that is very much for the local community. Once a coaching inn and within walking distance from Richmond Park and the River Thames, this family and dog-friendly pub has proudly served residents of East Sheen since 1776. With the biggest and best beer garden in all of London, when the sun shines, there’s no better place to grab your healthy dose of vitamin D whilst enjoying a delicious dish from their Garden Kitchen.
Will and Lisa joined The Hare & Hounds in the summer of 2015. After years of experience running their own respective pubs, Will and Lisa looked for an opportunity to take the next step and run one together. As one of Young’s most historic pubs, the couple were eager for the challenge and keen to add their personal touch to the grand Grade II listed building situated on the Upper Richmond Road.
Since the arrival of their little boy, Harry, and their ever-growing bond with the local community, their motto of ‘come as our guest, leave as our friend’ has never been stronger. With their welcoming attitude being reciprocated by the community, they truly have ‘made a home for our family within a business’.
After seven busy summers at The Hare & Hounds and the unwavering support from their locals, Will and Lisa are delighted to be able to reopen their doors post a three-month refurbishment. With the support and financial investment from Young’s, Will and Lisa have created a stand-out community pub that provides unrivalled surroundings and the highest quality food and drink.
With new furniture and décor, the pub’s interior perfectly blends the classic with the modern, creating a fresh new look that doesn’t compromise on the pub’s history or its renowned cosy ambience.
The pub’s incredible garden has always been hugely popular throughout the warmer months and the renovations here are nothing short of spectacular. The garden has been fitted with new astroturf, contemporary furniture and boasts an outdoor bar for al fresco summer sipping. Brand new is the addition of several outdoor huts, each with its own individual décor, theme and backstory, providing a different experience with each visit to the garden and perfect for evening celebrations and leisurely summer lunches with your nearest and dearest.
With all these incredible improvements to their cherished outdoor space, the power couple of East Sheen are extremely confident in achieving their goal of establishing their outside space as ‘The best beer garden in South West London’.
However, the crown jewel of the refurb lies in the brand-new outdoor kitchen. With head chef, Marcio, and his extremely talented brigade of chefs, the Hare & Hounds kitchen team have truly raised the bar, elevating the food to new levels.
While the indoor kitchen menu continues to offer the highest quality gastro meals characterised by the use of impeccably sourced British seasonal ingredients, the garden kitchen menu offers something a little different. Fitted with its very own smoker oven, the outdoor kitchen serves an array of smoked dishes and sharing platters with must-tries of smoked West Country short ribs; molasses glazed whole cauliflower and a sensational seafood Fisherman’s Platter laden with South Coast cod cheek scampi, grilled king prawns, smoked mackerel pate, smoked haddock fishcake, tartar, wild garlic mayo, Marie Rose and charred lemon.
Whilst there has certainly been a plethora of upgrades, the pub’s identity and ethos remain unchanged – to be a true neighbourhood pub with an ever-changing roster of community events such as its perennially popular the East Sheen East Egg Hunt and Halloween Hunt.
