Wetlands Centre
There is plenty to see at the Wetlands Centre in Barnes, but little ones will love the two Asian short-clawed otters which are in residence. You can watch them foraging, swimming and diving under their waterfall or glimpse them sleeping in their specially designed holt or burrow.

Boat trip
Take a 45 minute round trip ride from Kew, via Richmond to Hampton Court. A lovely trip that won’t be too long for active little ones. Take a ride from Putney Pier along the Thames, passing – or stopping off at – well-known sites such as Westminster and London Bridge along the way. Putney departures weekdays only. Battersea Park Children’s Zoo
Smaller than London Zoo, so perfect for little ones who love animals. Don’t expect lions and elephants, but Bolivian squirrel monkeys, Azara’s Agoutis and Tamarins as well as the more mundane but equally interesting donkeys and rats. batterseaparkzoo.co.uk. Horrible Histories Live – Hampton Court Palace
