Sitting on a peninsula, surrounded by water, the theme of this year’s Barnes Artists’ show is aptly named Living With Water. Paintings, ceramics, sculpture, photography and film will all be on display for the exhibition.
Katie James, co-founder of the group, says: ‘Water is essential to our lives – we cannot live without it in the right place, in the right quantity and of the right quality. Water is inspirational, the source of much pleasure, creativity and wellbeing. The river Thames, Beverley Brook, Leg O’ Mutton Reservoir, The Wetlands and Barnes Pond are all integral water features of Barnes and have inspired many artists over the years, including master landscape artist J.M.W Turner, who visited Barnes in 1827 and painted the river at the junction at Mortlake.’ Among those featured in the exhibition are local Glasgow born Bruce Maclean, who will be presenting artworks directly linked to Beverley Brook and Saatchi Gallery artist Zac Greening, who will be exhibiting his works inspired by sustainability of water, plus local artists such as Katie James herself, Michelle Hawes, David Pearce and Sarah Dickinson.
