It’s the best time of the year to look around beautiful local gardens and find some inspiration for your own garden
7 May: 1.30-4pm: The Watergardens, Kingston KT2
A Japanese landscaped garden, which was originally part of Coombe Wood Nursery and planted by the Veitch family in the 1860s. Around 9 acres of ponds, streams and waterfalls, with many rare trees. £5
21 May: 2-5pm 28 May: 6-8pm: 65, 67, 69, 71, 73 Kew Green TW9
A beautiful group of gardens, each facing historic Kew Green and only yards from the Thames. Each garden has its own induvial look, including beautiful lawns, winding paths, climbing roses and hidden areas to seek and find. £8 for all five gardens
4 June: 2.30-5pm: 40 Chartfield Avenue & 39 Hazlewell Road, Putney SW15
Chartfield Ave was built from scratch on a sloping site and is planted with swathes of perennials in deep bed around a circular lawn. Terrace with repeating forms, kitchen garden, seating areas and more than 30 trees planted 10 years ago. Hazlewell Rd is a secluded town garden, 80 x 40ft, with a naturalistic planting scheme of trees, shrubs and perennials in curved beds. Water feature and a rear patio, surrounded by trees and woodland planting.. £7, along with below garden (2 mins walk)
Chiswick Mall Gardens W4: 9 June: 6-8pm (Swan House, Field House, Longmeadow), 11 June: 1-5.30pm (seven gardens, inc above)
A really stunning group of gardens, set along the river in Chiswick, opposite Chiswick Eyot. Informal gardens, herbaceous borders, fruit trees, ponds, all evolving each year. One communal garden for 20 households. 9 June: £12.50, 11 June: £15
25 June: 1-6pm: 1 Fife Road
Two large cedar trees dominate this garden, which was created in 2013. Vegetable garden, wild garden, fruit trees, lawns and perennials and shrubs. £5
25 June: 2-6pm: 31 West Park Road TW9, 28 Taylor Avenue TW9
West Park is a modern botanical garden with oriental twist, with the emphasis on foliage and unusual plants, a reflecting pool and will screens. Taylor Ave Rd is an urban garden with borders on both side. £5 for both gardens, tea at no. 28
24 Sept: 11am-2pm: Petersham House, Petersham TW10
The house, owned by the Petersham Nurseries owners, Gael and Francesco Boglione, will be showing off their autumn garden, with rich colours, double borders and topiary. £15, inc tea, coffee and cake
