A new free, community bereavement support service has launched to help those work their way through the loss of a loved one
The new charity, space2grieve, has been set up to help anyone who has been bereaved by any means and at any time. Expert volunteers and administrators will provide space for clients to talk in a series of one-to-one support sessions. Local Mortlake resident, Lauren Clark, wife of the former England Cricket Captain Bob Willis, who died from prostate cancer in December 2019, is supporting the new organisation.
Says Lauren: ‘Conversations around death can be difficult, but it’s important to acknowledge how devastating bereavement can be. Even if you’re surrounded by friends and family, you can feel very alone. Bereavement support isn’t about getting over it, or moving on, but understanding, processing, and honouring those painful feelings of loss and grief.’
The charity will work with adults, children and families and anyone can contact them without a referral. Sessions can be over Zoom, by phone, or face-to-face, at school or at the ETNA Community Centre in East Twickenham.
