Shaking off the initial shock of lockdown, we went all-out to keep Earthlife going. That meant finding a way to move our classes from the studio into people’s homes. It was a two-week whirlwind of tech! But we did it, and after training our instructors on how to use our new interactive web service, we reached out to regular class goers to offer them this alternative way of exercising. By the end of March we had 17 out of 22 regular weekly classes up and running.
The response from our regular clients has been amazing with over three-quarters attending our online Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and Lotte Berk classes. It’s a shame we can’t do this with our lovely therapies, but those will have to wait until our premises at Kew Bridge Arches are open again.
A few weeks in, classes were running smoothly and I no longer needed to be constantly in the background as “tech support”, so I had a little time on my hands. That’s when I saw a new local FB group called ‘Kew Sews Scrubs’ and as I had a sewing machine, I got in touch. I am now cutting and prepping fabric to be made into scrubs, isolation gowns and other PPE for local hospices and care homes.
