Orleans House Gallery is hosting a series of virtual lectures, looking at how the Thames brought commerce and wealth to the area over the centuries
The advantages of being along the Thames attracted royalty, aristocrats, writers and property owners, alongside commerce, to our stretch of the river, giving us a rich local heritage. Orleans House Gallery, alongside eight other local organisations, including Marble Hill House, Strawberry Hill House, Pope’s Grotto and Chiswick House, are working together to bring a series of free lectures about local history, gardens and landscapes.

29 Jan – Alexander Pope: The Poet and the Poetic Landscape
3 Feb – Chiswick House, William Kent and the birth of the English Landscape Movement
4 Feb – Marble Hill: Howard and her garden of grottos and groves
5 Feb – Strawberry Hill: Walpole’s Open Grove
10 Feb – Fishponds, great cedars and Jayne Mansfield: renovating Boston Manor Park
11 Feb – The Changing Landscape of Orleans House
12 Feb – 17th to 21st Century: Is Ham House still a garden of contemporary ideas?
