It’s 1980s London and four housemates in their mid-30s are struggling to keep their heads above water. When they are approached by a young, confident property developer to leave their home of 10 years for a substantial fee, they realise they hold all the cards. In a real-life game of Monopoly, by the late playwright Stephen Jeffrey, set in Thatcher’s Britain, they manipulate the property market, one cup of tea at a time. Valued Friends was an instant hit in 1989, starring Peter Capaldi, Martin Clunes, Jane Horrocks and Tim McInnery.
