In Wandsworth, laptops are being requested to help adults learn. While many children in Wandsworth have been desperate for laptops to help with school work, there are many adults, too, who have been left isolated during the pandemic with no way to improve their job prospects and with no funds to buy computers to help them. In a bid to assist them, Wandsworth Council’s Lifelong Learning team has secured funding for more than 200 devices which are being distributed locally via local community groups. The emphasis is on helping adults to improve skills for work and on courses for people who have become unemployed. Says Cllr Will Sweet, cabinet member for Education: ‘Over the past year the Council has been working to ensure all learners have access to equipment and data.
