Rain gardens in Barnes
The first rain garden in Barnes has been established with, hopefully, many more to follow. Located at the roundabout on Barnes High Street, by the river, the garden absorbs excess water which tends to collect there are storms or heavy rainfall. It will ease pressure on drains and lower the risk of a build-up of surface water. And, with resilient plants, it will turn a grey area green and help reduce the effects of pollution. The garden was developed by Community BlueScapes and is part of a Defra-funded partnership between Richmond Council, Barnes Common Ltd and WWT in collaboration with the Barnes Community Association. Other rain gardens are due to be planted in Castelnau and Mortlake.
